TEACHER'S HELP: KSSR YEAR 4 ENGLISH LESSON PLAN (READING)

Subject: English Language
Time   : (60 Minutes)           
Class  : Year 4
Proficiency Level   : Intermediate.
Theme    : World of Knowledge
Topic  : Unit 10- Let’s Celebrate.
Focused Skill: Reading
Integrated Skill: Writing, Listening and Speaking.

Content Standard   : 2.2 By the end of the 6- year primary schooling, pupils will be able to demonstrate understanding of a variety of linear and nonlinear texts in the form of print and non-print materials using a range of strategies to construct meaning. (SJK)

Learning Standard : 2.2.2 Able to read and understand phrases and sentences from:
a)    Linear texts. (SJK)

Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
                                        i. read at least three sentences in the given text with correct pronunciation.
                                        ii. read at least two simple sentences written by the students with guidance.

Teaching-learning resources: Hari Raya minus one, ‘Kuih Raya’, Raya Card, text, a large text, puzzle board, tv frame, observation sheet and worksheets.

Moral Values:    

Respect eldest – Teacher tries to bring out the value found in Hari Raya                                                              festival that is to respect the eldest.
Unity- Students will respect other religions and work together with them after the learnt                    about Hari Raya

Politeness- This value is integrated during group work where the students will talk politely                         with each other. This value also integrated when receiving “Kuih Raya”

INDUCTION SET:
1.    Teacher plays minus one “Hari Raya”
2.    Pupils respond to the teacher’s questions
3.    Pupils shake hand with each other
4.    Pupils guess topic of the day.

PRESENTATION:
1.    Teacher models the text “Hari Raya” and pupil follow after the teacher.
2.    Pupils are provided with six different colour envelopes.
3.    Pupils are grouped according to the colours.
4.    Inside the envelope, there will be parts of the text learnt by the pupil just now.
5.    When the teacher mentioned a colour. For example ‘red’, the red group will read their part.

Practice:                                            
1.    Teacher displays a big puzzle.
2.    A volunteer come to the front and read part of the text and followed by the others.
3.    After read it, the pupil can paste the puzzle at the board.
4.    These steps continue until few pupils get a chance.

Production:
1.    Pupils are divided into groups.
2.    Pupils imagine themselves as a reporter.
3.    By looking at the picture puzzle related to hari ray completed just now, the pupils are required to write at least 5 sentences related to the picture.
4.    Finally, the pupils will present their sentences behind a tv frame.

Closure:
1.    Teacher conducts a quick quiz related to the text or lesson
2.    Pupils line up and shakes hand with the teacher while receiving raya cookies.

K-TALK: ZE:A PARK HYUNG SIK (DARK PAST)


I don’t have to introduce Park Hyung Sik or well known as ZE:A Hyungsik. Everyone recognizes him as a great kpop singer yet only few know him as a great actor.

Again, many can argue that he is a great celebrity because of his look. Actually he is more than that. He is just like an ordinary people where he starts from the bottom.

He had a dark past where he begins his entertainment career when he is sweet seventeen.  During seventeen, we always have fun and still innocent but Hyungsik already start earning. Unfortunately, he just received approximately 70 USD and felt cheated.  At the same time, his first joined company also does not treat him well and the manager turns against him.

Because of this traumatization, when he signed contract with Star Empire Entertainment, he tried to prove himself by working hard. He trained day and night and did not mingle well with other members. With God’s grace, time passed and the kindness shown by the new company and ZE:A members changed Hyungsik to trust people again. One of the incident touched Hyungsik’s heart is when ZE:A members asked him to joined for meal because the previous company don’t even invite him to eat together.

His past makes him the kindest because he always act kind with other ZE:A members. Kwanghee is someone that we will like to avoid but Hyungsik goes out with him. That's enough to show Hungsik's kindness and respect to others.

One of his touching words is "how come I fall when I begin with zero!"

True right! when we start from the bottom for sure we will climb and reach the peak.


So before we judge any celebrity please learn about them. Not every rich born as a silver spoon and not all celebrity reach the peak without hardship.

Finally, here some bio about Hyungsik.

D.O.B: 16 NOV 1991

Place of Birth: Yongin South Korea.

Acted few dramas such as High Society, The Heirs, What’s with this Family and etc. He acted in musical theatre as well.

Won most awards as an actor such as MBC Entertainment Awards, KBS Drama Awards, Baeksang Arts Awards and SBS Drama Awards.

Preparation
Print the picture cards and use them as you sing the song. Place the B, I, N, G, and O cards at the front of the room. Before singing the song, introduce or review the letters. As you sing the song, place the "clapping hands" picture cards over the letters one by one as you progress throuh each verse (or print a hand card on the back of each letter and flip them over). This will help students understand when and how many times to clap in addition to developing letter recognition skills.
Classroom Benefits
"BINGO" is a popular kids' song that follows a familiar pattern. For each verse, remove one letter and replace it with a hand clap. It is a great introduction to spelling, good for listening comprehension and helps kids develop rhythm

TEACHER'S HELP: KSSR YEAR 4 ENGLISH LESSON PLAN (WRITING)

Class  : Year 4  
Theme    : World of Knowledge
Topic  : Unit 7: Blogging
Period: 60 Minutes
Focused Skill: Writing
Integrated Skills: Reading, Listening and Speaking

Content Standard   : 3.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to form letters and words in neat legible print including cursive writing.

Learning Standard : 3.1.1 Able to write in neat legible print with correct spelling:
a)    sentences

Learning Objectives : By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
                                        i. write at least two sentences using the words learnt.
                                       ii. write at least three sentences using the words learnt to produce a notice.
                                  
Teaching-learning resources: Flashcards, Mr.Tiger, music, words strips. words chart, number cards.

INDUCTION SET

1.Teacher displays a chart that contains the words that they are going to learn.
2. The words are covered with numbers.
3.Teacher provides number cards to the pupils.
4. Pupil that holding the mentioned number cards will run forward and remove the mentioned number from the chart.
5. Step four continues until everyone gets a chance. Pupils guess words of the day.

PRESENTATION

1. Teacher shows a chart on notice which contains the mentioned words.
2. Teacher explains way to construct sentences on the notice.
3. Pupils try to construct their sentences using the words.





PRACTICE
  
 1.Teacher conducts music box activity.
2.Teacher plays the music and pupils pass around “Mr.Tiger.”.
3. When the music stops, the one who holds Mr Tiger will draw a word and create a sentence based on the selected word.
4. This step continues until everyone gets a chance.


PRODUCTION

1.   Pupils create their own notice based on the words they learnt.
2. In the notice, the pupils create few simple sentences.
