Malaysian education claims that
reformation is a need to improve the coming generations, yet the problem in the
education system never resolved. Clearly, today the primary school children are
suffering because of the examination oriented system. School based assessment
is just a puppet show that already died few years ago yet the name remained.
UPSR pupils today have been forced to take morning classes, afternoon class and
interestingly night classes as well. The era that shows the school an
interesting place already comes to the end. Many activities such as science
fair, sports (MSSD), language competitions and etc. have been held but the
winners will be forgotten and not appreciated. At the end of the day, the one
scored 6As is the winner and the field champion is nothing. The outdoor activities
also will make the co-curricular active pupils to neglect the study and at last
can’t perform well in their examination. The problem is not in the academic or
co-curriculum activities but on how the school has been assessed by the
government.
SJK(T)
Tanah Rata is a no. 1 school in Pahang because of the best academic achievement
in UPSR last year. How about other schools that have been performing well in
the co-curriculum activities? The assessment are wrong and the ranking of the pupils based on the academic are ridiculous.
A school should be assessed on the three criteria: academic, management and
co-curriculum activities. Then only, the school teachers will be encouraged by
the school head to conduct programs which will create a holistic individual. If
these three types of assessments are not conducted, the school will just create
robots and stressful children. At the end of the day, no one will look for UPSR
result to offer jobs and all the efforts by the stressful pupils will be
nothing. Let’s help the primary school children, the Ministry of Education
should evaluate schools based on THE three criteria so that we will create talented
pupils. Please re-consider this. Spread this letter to make Malaysian aware!
